Nelson S_edited.jpg
8th Grade Algebra Teacher

Mr. Nelson was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and returns after 25 years of teaching math and physics and coaching gymnastics in our boarding academies. He holds a B.S. in mathematics with a minor in physical education and a teaching credential from Walla Walla University, along with an M.S. in mathematics education from Boise State University. He has been blessed to spend nearly his entire teaching career working alongside his wife and childhood sweetheart, Sami.

Mr. Nelson loves teaching and building lifelong relationships with his students. He's passionate about mathematics—helping students see its beauty and realize their own potential to grasp its grandeur. He believes students with strong communication and math skills are well equipped for success across a broad range of college disciplines and career paths. He loves the structure of algebra, the beauty of geometry, and the depth of precalculus and calculus, and feels it's a blessing to share the wonder of the order God has woven into mathematics—and through it, the good news of our Creator and Redeemer.

Mr. Nelson enjoys spending time with his wife and two adult children. He likes athletics and sports (go Seahawks!), bicycling, motorcycling, Rubik's cubes, puzzles, and brain teasers. He never wants to stop learning and enjoys tinkering with anything mechanical or structural.
